Cats are known to be highly territorial animals. When they find their territory invaded, they will fight back. If you have two male cats fighting over territory, then you may want to separate them. However, if you have a female cat who is pregnant, she may not be able to defend herself. She may need help protecting her kittens. You should call your vet immediately if you notice any symptoms of pregnancy in your cat.
2. A pregnant cat is going to go through some changes in her body. Her belly will swell and become larger. She will start eating more than usual and drinking more water. She will also stop hunting and sleeping as much. These changes are normal and do not mean anything bad about your cat's health.
3. Your cat will start producing milk once she gives birth. This milk will be yellowish-white in color and will have a sweet smell. It will be similar to human breast milk. Your cat will begin licking her nipples and rubbing them against objects. This behavior is called “lactation”.
4. Once your cat starts lactating, she will produce milk for approximately three weeks. After this time, she will no longer produce milk.
5. Kittens will start coming out of the mother's vagina after four days. They will weigh between 1/8th and 1/10th of their mother's weight. Their eyes will open at around 10 days old. They will start exploring their surroundings at around 14 days old. By 21 days old, they will be fully grown.
6. Male kittens will start developing their testicles at around 12 weeks old. At this age, they will start getting ready to mate.
7. Female kittens will start showing signs of puberty at around 15 weeks old. They will start spraying urine and marking their territories.
8. Pregnancy lasts for about six months. Most cats give birth to five liters of milk per day.
9. Litter size varies depending on the breed of cat. Usually, a domestic shorthair cat will have 2-4 kittens. A Maine Coon cat will have 4-12 kittens. A Persian cat will have 8-20 kittens.
10. The gestation period for a cat is about 60 days.
11. The average litter size for a cat is 5.
12. A kitten will stay with its mother until it is weaned.
13. Weaning happens when the mother stops nursing her kitten.
14. A kitten will leave his mother's side after he is weaned. He will continue to live with his siblings.
