Presidential finalist Senator Ben Sasse greeted with protests at University of Florida
Republican Senator Ben Sasse was met with protests from students and staff at the University of Florida, during a forum after he was announced as the university’s ‘sole finalist’ for president.
This footage, filmed by Makiya Seminera, shows students chanting “Ben Sasse has to go” outside the room where the senator was speaking, before the crowd of demonstrators poured into the room.
According to the university’s newspaper The Alligator, the forum was scheduled to run from 1:15 pm to 4:45 pm where UF students and staff were encouraged ask Sasse questions.
Seminera said the protests prompted the forum to wrap up early, leaving protesters to flood the room.
Sasse has faced criticism over his stance against same-sex marriage, his past efforts to do away with tenure and a decision by university leaders to keep much of the presidential selection process secret, according to local reports.
