Yes. Yes. Yes. When I am weak, that is when He gets to show out all the more, and get that much more glory for bringing me through. It is ok to be weak before God. It is even ok to be weak in front of our brothers and sisters… as long as they are safe, that is. If they’ll take advantage of your vulerability, don’t show them your weakness. That isn’t the point here, though. The point is that Jesus is more than strong enough to get you through, no matter what the storm is that you’re facing.

DM 28-2: Merry Chrismas, Mint Lovers! 21.1 Is Slated to Release on Christmas!

Not a ton changing under the hood, but here’s what will be new:

Driver Manager – can now run in user mode, rather than immediately requiring sudo to launch, better debconf support (Nvidia users, rejoice!), also has better UI, offline support, and a new screen when a liveusb is detected (think of the Broadcom WiFi drivers that have been the bane of many a Debian/Ubuntu derivative distro user)

Among other things, like losing the Computer, Trash, and Network Icons from the desktop.

DM 28-3: System76’s All New Cosmic DE is No Longer GTK based…

We have no idea when it will be out, and it is just in something akin to very early alpha now, as they are essentially building from scratch. Iced is written in the Rust language, and according to the developers, is far more lightweight and therefore far faster to render the desktop in. Currently, they are working on something akin to libadwaita (GNOME’s widget library) as a basis for the further development work in Iced on the new Cosmic DE (Desktop Environment). The dev team will not commit to deadlines or specific roadmaps (publically), but it looks promising that we might have it by mid-2023, according to the author of this article. This could send shockwaves through the FOSS community, and there could be forks of Cosmic coming, as System76 is something of a power player, at least here in the States.

DM 28 Bonus: Tuxedo OS Now Available to the Rest of Us

Tuxedo is a German company who specializes in building Linux-first computers, everything from small form factor, to laptop, to traditional desktop, to rack servers and workstations. They are taking a page from System76’s book and have released their distro for the rest of us to download and run, if we want to. It is Ubuntu-based, which kinda turns me off immediately. It runs KDE as its main DE, which makes me warm up to it just a little, but it is an older KDE version, so you miss out on the newer improvements from more recent versions, but that goes back to the fact that it is Ubuntu-based. It also includes all of Tuxedo’s goodies that they made for their own hardware, which is cool if it works for your system.

Notable differences to vanilla Ubuntu include:
PipeWire instead of PulseAudio
os-prober to detect other Oses on the system
No Snaps by default
No Cannonical URL in Network Manager Connectivity check

May be worth checking out…
