The TR-125 (TR-125 stands for "Tanc Românesc 125" - Romanian Tank 125) prototype main battle tank is a redesigned T-72 made in Romania with Romanian components only. Number 125 in the designation stands for the 125 mm A555 smoothbore tank gun. Built at the end of the 1980s, the TR-125 was Romania’s version of the highly successful T-72 (which it designed by reverse-engineering the existing T-72s in its fleet). Compared to its Soviet predecessor, the TR-125 had thicker armor, a longer hull, and a heavier, more powerful V12 diesel engine. However, it used the same 125mm gun, which gave the TR-125 its name.
