The US along with Britain, France, Albania, Norway and Ireland urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to meet after North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan. However, China and Russia told council counterparts that they oppose a public meeting, diplomats said. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the missile launch a "reckless act", UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said.
