The recent Hurricane Ian meant heavy rain and winds for the Henry County VA region. Trees came down, plus a deluge of water in a few hours. Did the new earthworks survive?

Dug less than a week earlier, these earthworks help leavel a field by forming a terrace. About four foot tall it was shocking that any straw remains after the big storm. It didn't flood like Florida, but rain was heavy.

Bench terrace earthworks provide erosion control, increases land stability, and spreads water. Design takes into account heavy rain conditions. The right design will hold up during any storm.

Yet a stable earthworks will have no bare soil. Vegetation is necessary to stabilize soil. Without grass or covercrop cover crop you risk surface soil run off. How did this earthworks fair?
