Biden Wants to Mandate Obesity Counselors (October 4, 2022 )

President Biden is looking to solve the obesity crisis with his new 44 page National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health proposal. If implemented, this plan would require food packages to have warning labels on them stating their fat, sugar, and salt content. These would be colored coded, red, green, and yellow. Another suggestion is to provide obesity counselors to individuals on MediCare or over the age of 65. Expanding free school meals and increasing food stamps by an average of $26 per person, per month, are also highlights of the proposal. Although Biden has promised to cut the number of diet-related illnesses, the administration has set no solid targets.

Weight-related problems kill more than 300,000 Americans every year. Forty-percent of adults are considered obese.
