So You Want A Cow You Can Milk....

This vid just gives some insights on things I learned about selecting and having cows with dairy breeding, in my little herd. When I started out, I wanted beef primarily, but I wanted to be able to milk my cow and get maybe a quart a day or more. I didn't want a full dairy cow because I didn't want to deal with that much milk, and I want my calves to be BEEFY for when they grow up and I butcher.

Punkin was my first with dairy in her: she's 1/4 Jersey. She's great and produces a ton of milk. Later, I got MooMoo, who is 1/2 Jersey. She was a rescue and I suspect her development may have been stunted because of severe malnutrition as a calf. She gives less milk than Punkin. Both of these girls produce nice, beefy calves (when put to a beef type bull of course) and give plenty of milk to keep them healthy and growing, plus some for me.

But I've learned lots of things and hopefully there's some information here to help you find what you want if you want to milk your cow. I'm no expert, but I have definitely learned some valuable lessons!
