The game's eponymous protagonist, Sonic, must run the length of a level to reach an end-of-level guardian character who typically protects a "special stage" that can be used to generate one of two different power-ups: either an extra life or a shield that can protect Sonic from getting killed.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a 3D game that can be downloaded on an iPhone. It’s a fast paced game that is easy to play with simple controls. The levels get progressively harder as you continue through them. You need to collect rings in order to keep your life and make it through the level alive. There are different types of rings: red ones give you 10 seconds of protection from damage; blue ones give 20 seconds; green ones are worth 50 points each; and yellow ones award 100 points each time you collect one. If you run out of lives, it’s game over! Sonic runs automatically so all you have to do is tilt your device left or right to move him in that direction or jump by tapping the screen when he’s in mid-air.
