Hurricane Ian's winds started hitting Florida's southwest coast this Wednesday, coming in also with heavy rain as it continues to strengthen itself to be just shy of being considered a Category 5 status hurricane.

Ian developed and grew overnight and turned itself into a catastrophic Category 4 hurricane, that includes top winds of 155 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Ian is classified as a Category 4 but could soon be considered Category 5
Fort Myers area will see the hurricane arrive, and the heavy populated area could be inundated by an up to 18 feet storm, according to forecasters.

Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis said this Wednesday that people in Hurricane Ian's path should rush to safety and take shelter.

"This is going to be a nasty nasty day, two days," DeSantis said today.

This comes after Hurricane Ian's passage through Cuba, where it took out the entirety of the country's power grid, leaving it's 11 million people without electricity, while also harshly damaging several of their biggest tobbaco farms in the nation.
