Things to do in Albany (Punjabi)
Albany is located approximately 400kms to the south of Perth. It is the southern most town of Western Australia. The city centre is at the northern edge of Princess Royal Harbour, which is a part of King George Sound. The Minang Noongar people were the original inhabitants of the area from the past 18000 years. The first European settlement was established in 1826 called Frederickstown. It was renamed as Albany in 1832.
3:05 The first settlers arrived aboard Brig Amity from Sydney to Kind George Sound in 1826. The ship had 23 convicts, 21 soldiers and domestic animals, food crops and building materials to start a remote community. The Museum of Great Southern showcases the life of Minang Noongar people and a glimpse of the life of early settlers.
3:28 Follow the journey of service man or woman at National Anzac Centre. The journey starts at recruitment and continues through training and life during World War. Stroll along Memorial Walk to learn more about the First Convoy. Step into the bunkers to see how the soldiers defended the land from potential Japanese attack.
06:49 The blowholes are formed by the rocks which were once part of the Antarctica and Australia supercontinent Gondawana, around 1800 million years ago. The crevasses in granite blow air and water up the channel with each wave, creating a burst of spray and a loud ‘whoosh’! The Gap Natural Bridge provides exhilarating views of the Southern Ocean and the coast of Bald Head to West Cape Howe in Torndirrup National Park.
09:00 Albany Wind Farm consists of 12 wind turbines each at a height of 100m from the base to the tip of the blades. The turbines generate around 75% of clean, green electricity for Albany. A short walk from the turbines gives magnificent views across Torbay to West Cape Howe National Park and the city of Albany to the east.
10:40 Historic Whaling Station (Whale World) was the last operating whale station in Australia. Climb aboard Cheynes IV, the world’s only preserved whalechaser ship. The interactive museum is full of whaling artefacts such as whale skeletons and whaling equipment from the bygone era. While you are there, immerse yourself in picturesque views of the Frenchman Bay the biodiversity of Regional Wildflower Garden.
