The History of the LS part 1 The Prologue (Look back to the start of the SBC to the LT)

This is part one of a four-part that is looking at the overall story of the LS engine while my other videos in the About The LS series focus on the engineering and possibilities of the engine. This is just trying to touch on the events that caused General Motors to take action and have to start redesigning their Small Block Platform. Once they started to really redesign the small block it takes off like a rocket, both the redesign and the engine, and will follow up with part two when the decision to go totally away from the original small block design was made.

The tuning software I use is the MPVI2+ by HP Tuners. I have the 2 as the first link, but they just dropped the 3 with added support for more vehicles across both foreign and domestic brands. This isn't a preloaded super chip or bully dog, it is to fully tune your PCM, data log runs at the track, read trouble codes, add electronic fans, adjust transmission shift points and pressure, and even delete sensors for modification done to your engine. There is plenty of support on their website, and their active forum page where you can post your tune and get experienced tuners to give you advice as you learn how to tune. Of course when you cross over to wanting to electronically control boost on an LS turbo set up you may need to spend the big bucks on a Holley Terminator to simplify your wiring harness.

Berryman intake valve & combustion chamber cleaner. I have been using this for years, and it is a step further than using their B-12 Chemtool. It is more invasive as you have to blow the can into your PCV valve or throttle body with the engine running as the fix a flat style can just dump in for about 5 minutes. After you have treated your engine it may bog for a little bit during and right after, but once you run up through the rpms and blow out the foam it is like the engine is brand new. It's one of those first things you do with a new car steps that I like to do, and It always gives me some improvements on how smooth the engine runs after doing it.
