The global expansion of movements such as #MeToo, #MenAreTrash, #ImWithHer and #TimesUp as a means to protest sexual assault, sexism, misogyny, and patriarchy are indicative of a new feministic dawn for women. While the extent of the inequality suffered by women may not always come to light for many reasons, one thing is a universal truth - women experience varying forms of inequality in their personal and professional capacities.
Leoni van der Merwe has delivered measurable successes working alongside South Africa's most decorated professionals as a legal/ governance professional and company secretary. She is completing a doctorate in law focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities in the workplace. She is a lecturer in the Faculty of Law of the University of Johannesburg, where she teaches Business Law, Labour Law and Law of Succession to law and non-law students. Leoni plays the role of a change agent in numerous capacities in the broader community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
