Charles Spurgeon was born in 1834 and became a Christian at 15 years old. Later that same year, he became a Sunday school teacher and preached his first sermon as a fill-in pastor for a friend. The following year Charles became pastor at a small Cambridge church, where his first work was published in 1853 at 18. Then, at 19 years old, Spurgeon started preaching at London’s Famed New Park Street Chapel, where he was the pastor for 38 years through the growth and transitions of the church that often saw crowds of as many as 10,000 people. Known as the “Prince of Preachers,” Charles Spurgeon had preached close to 3600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, devotionals, and other works before his death in 1892.
