After suffering the tragic murder of her sister and brother-in-law, thirty-two-year-old talk show host, Joni Jeffers, does what she does best, she buries herself in her work.

Ambitious and driven, Joni finds an odd comfort in interviewing the convicted killer of her sister on her show. Viewers are stunned but supportive and the ratings soar.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, top news anchorman, Jackson Redding, watches the show from his easy chair. His heart is heavy. Having grown up next door to Joni, he recalls childhood moments he shared with her and her sister.

Joni was his best friend. She was his Batman and he was her Robin until the day Joni, then eleven broke the news that she and her family would be moving to New York City.

How well Jackson remembers the days they spent playing without a care in the world. He had often teased Joni for being “weird” and made fun of the way she used a stick to interview him and the other neighborhood children.

But it had all fallen into place when she blossomed in her career. Back in New York City, Joni busies herself at work to escape her grief of her sister's death but the distraction is not working anymore.

Although she is becoming more successful than ever, she is filling less fulfilled.

When she is nominated for an Emmy, she is not all that thrilled. It feels empty. Jackson is nominated for an Emmy as well and runs into his old best friend at the event.

He has had a crush on Joni for as long as he can remember and goes out on a limb by asking her for a chance at love. To his surprise, Joni takes him up on the offer but is she even up for a relationship, much less a long-distance one? Will Joni risk it all or does she fall back into the safety net of her career? And even if she is willing- is she able? Now that they are grown, is finding love and happiness even a possibility- or is life just not that simple anymore?
