4 Chinese fighter jets enter Taiwan’s ADIZ UKRAİNE RUSSİA WAR NEWS Four Chinese military aircraft were observed by Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Monday (Aug. 1). Four People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Shenyang J-16 fighter aircraft approached the southwest corner of Taiwan's ADIZ, according to the Ministry of National Defense (MND). In retaliation, Taiwan sent planes, broadcast radio advisories, and deployed air defense missile systems to track the PLAAF jets. Air traffic controllers ask approaching aircraft to identify themselves in an ADIZ, which extends beyond of a country's airspace. Last month, China sent 70 military planes into Taiwan's identification zone, including 28 fighter jets, 8 fighter bombers, 1 bomber, 2 helicopters, and 31 spotter planes. Since September 2020, China has increased the use of gray zone tactics by routinely sending aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ, with the majority of incidents taking place in the southwest corner. The MND claims that during the course of 239 days in 2021, Chinese military aircraft crossed Taiwan's ADIZ 961 times. The concept of a gray zone tactic is "an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and assurance that try to achieve one's security objectives without resorting to direct and major use of force."
