Spot priming is used to seal sanded and/or chipped paint areas (not the complete area). It will protect and help have better adhesion so that the new paint layer being added will adhere to the primed surface. If possible always prime the complete area if it is feasible.

This being near the ocean so it will get a spot prime and a complete prime after and the primer will be tinted to the paint chosen by the client after patching and caulking and sanding is complete. This is a short video of what spot priming is.
