Dugong, or "sea cow" - is a plant-eating marine mammal.

This algae-eating social mammal can live in the wild for more than 70 years. However, due to anthropogenic reasons, their population is declining and the dugong is threatened with extinction.

The name "dugong" translates from Malay as "mermaid. In the Middle Ages in Japan, they were even placed in aquarium-like tanks and shown to all comers "the accidentally caught sea maiden".
