A child is hit by joyriders who drive off. Mentally challenged Bo finds the unconscious child and thinks she is sleeping and tries to wake her. Her parents think Bo attacked her and the town must decide if Bo should be institutionalized.

SHOW SYNOPSIS
In Depression-era South, Booker T. Freeman and David Hall become best friends, despite different racial backgrounds. Booker's dad Luther is the local blacksmith, W.D. Hall the grocer, with the families becoming close, due to the boys.
