Hormone disrupting chemicals in your products: why care

You maybe thinking that I am not trying to get pregnant, pregnant, breastfeeding or even care about fertility issues…so why should I care about “hormone safe” products.
Hormones are the broad term that actually encompasses all the chemical messengers that make up your endocrine system and they are responsible for just about every cellular process in your body. They regulate mood, energy, metabolism, weight, sleep and the by products all of us use everyday contain ingredients that interfere with the normal regulation and functioning of our body.
Think about our grandparents and great grandparents, how many soaps, lotions, cleaning products did they have in their homes? Less than half a dozen. Nowadays, Women, on average, put 168 chemicals on their skin everyday and men 68. That number doesn’t include the detergents and household cleaning products we use everyday, different ones for laundry, floors, counters, stainless steel, ovens. Is it any surprise the average unborn child had been exposed to 287 chemicals in the umbilical cord when measured.
I am not a advocate of giving up all the things that make our lives easier, cleaner or more beautiful, rather reducing our exposure where we can, particularly if I can make choices that still allow my skin to look great, my body to function at it’s peak and house to be clean etc
