In order to accommodate all kinds of vehicles the maps of the Battlefield series can generally reach tens of hectares and the scenarios are mostly set in open areas with small towns and military bases. In some third-party modules the maps can even be several square kilometers in size. Some Battlefield games also offer scaled-down versions of the maps which are suitable for skirmishes with low numbers of players. There are no obstacles to define the boundaries of the map but the map representation indicates the range in which players can move and players who do not return within a certain time frame will have their lives cut to death.
