An important part of having good mental health is building resilience so you can cope with unexpected changes and challenges in your life. Resilience draws on your inner strength which is important for your mental health.
People who have resilience can manage stress better, which means they are less likely to develop mental illnesses like depression and anxiety. You can learn coping skills to build your resilience and inner strength to maintain good mental health.

Inner strength can have a lot to do with self-talk. Practise thinking good things about yourself. Identify your strengths as part of your self-talk, and accept compliments for the things you achieve no matter how small. One way of improving self-talk is to look, think and act in a positive way. Surround yourself with positive and optimistic people and watch this video when you need a gentle reminder to help turn negative self-talk into neutral or positive self-talk.
