While all cigars are works of art, some are the Sistine Chapel, and others are barely worthy of a refrigerator magnet. But today’s cigar, the Island Jim by Oscar #2, falls somewhere in between.

However, despite its raggedy looks and #2-pencil-shape, the Island Jim by Oscar #2 (like the pencil) is a cigar I’d been looking forward to for a long time. It’s got an interesting shape, a shaggy foot, and a two-toned wrapper that will catch your eye.

Without even cutting the cap, you can get a decent draw through the open tip. And, on that cold draw, I tasted pine cones and wood. Once lit, however, the flavors reminded me of the Super Fly, also by Oscar Valladares.

Once lit, the Island Jim by Oscar #2 torpedo developed an uneven burn, likely due to the shaggy foot. Also, there was a stem in the binder that caused issues early. Going into the first third, the flavors were very light and airy, but with hints of flavors.

Was the Island Jim by Oscar #2 worth searching for? Will it live up to the Jim Robinson name? Let’s see.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Island Jim by Oscar #2 is just okay. The flavors were okay. The price point is okay. The construction was okay, but I wish the draw had opened up a little more.

And while I dislike comparing one cigar to another, in this case, it’s a cigar from the same company, and I’d recommend the Oscar Valladares Super Fly over this one.

For these reasons, and because of a relatively short smoke time, the Island Jim by Oscar #2 earns a CigarScore 4.
