3D Printing a SUPER NINTENDO LED Sign!

This 3D Printed Super Nintendo Logo Sign is (BACK)LIT!

One of the first prints I ever attempted when I first got a 3D printer was a Nintendo Logo Sign that you could install lights into. The issue I ran into was that the letters never fit into the white part of the print properly, they were just too big. I was thinking about trying to make this work again recently when a solution hit me: a 2-color print with a filament change mid-print!

I've really been having fun as of late creating these 3D printed LED light signs. The original one turned up better than I could have imagined, and that got me thinking about doing a second one which would represent my favorite video game system of all time, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I started with the Nintendo sign design that I've been using, and went to work.

I found a PNG online of the logo I wanted to use, the problem is tinkercad, the software I use to create 3D models, cannot work with a 2d image. There's actually an online tool that I found and I have been using to extrapolate a three-dimensional image out of a two-dimensional one. The results have been terrific, and I love the way the logo turned out here.

I once again through the files into Cura and began slicing and optimizing for my Monoprice Joule printer. The design process took me a couple of hours, and the print took about 3 and 1/2 hours to complete. As it is, the printer pauses between layers eight and nine so that I can change from White filament to red to get the two-tone look I am looking for.

Next, I wired the LED the same way I did the other signs, with a 5 ft long USB cable for power with an inline on/off switch. I think the overall result looks terrific, and I may scale this up a little bit larger for my game room. I may also look into adding keyholes so that it would be wall mountable.
