Theraphosa Blondi, or Goliath bird-eater, belongs to the bird-eater family. Found in northern South America, it is the world's largest spider by weight and volume, with legs only second in span to the Giant Huntsman spider. [1] The name "bird spider" comes from an early 17th-century etchings by Maria Sibylla Merian that show a spider eating a hummingbird. Despite its name, giant antulas rarely hunt birds. [2]
