Turkey seeks to join SCO, Turkish banks bend to Washington's threat of sanctions

"Turkey has no obligation to report to the European Union after it took part in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)", Erdogan has stated. Yet, Turkey’s Isbank and Denizbank announced on Monday that they have halted the use of Russia’s Mir payment system following a warning from Washington that financial institutions risk secondary sanctions if they help Moscow bypass US penalties.

Update: It looks like it was the corporate banks who decided to reject the Mir system. The state own banks haven't rejected Mir yet. However, that still leaves the fact that Turkey doesn't consider the referendums to be legitimate and are still Ukrainian territory that Russia should give back.
