South Korea Metal Week *1* | DIABLO - SORROW
Day 2 of South Korea Metal Week brings us the band Diablo. They were a wonderful surprise!
Diablo was formed in 1993 with the lineup of Park Jung Won (vocals), Choo Myoung Kyo (drums), Kim Soo Han (guitar) and Kim Hyung Joong (bass). The band name was inspired by the Lamborghini Diablo sports car. In their first few years, the members had various schedule clashes, personal issues and band gig issues, and were not able to release a record until 1997.
In 1997, they recorded their first split album Legal Defense alongside Off, Seed, and Slam. That same year, bassist Kim Hyung Joong was taken in as a permanent member of the band.[2] In 1999, they took part in the Sanulrim tribute album, 77 99 22, with a cover of 내 마음 (내 마음은 황무지).
In 2000, they recorded their first solo album, Desirous Infection. They worked on 5 English tracks with the Japanese record label Howling Bull. The album was released in the US, Japan and South Korea.
In 2001, Diablo opened for American groove metal band Pantera in their South Korean tour.
In 2010, after Park Jeong Won and Kim Hyung Joong left the band, they released their third album, Undefined, with new vocalist Jang Hak, bassist Fly, and guitarist Rock. The album was recorded at Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles, with producer Dee Robb with the assistance of Sony Music.
In 2011, they participated in the Metal Honey live album along with Lee Hyun Suk, Black Hole, and Black Syndrome.
In 2012, Diablo opened for English heavy metal band Judas Priest in their South Korean tour. The same year, they recorded the EP Dumb. Afterwards, bassist Fly left the band and was replaced by Gang Jun Hyeong.
In 2013, they recorded the EP The Keeper of Souls. The same year, they participated in the Red Bull Live on the Road contest, and won first place.
In 2014, Red Bull assisted Diablo with an Asian tour as well as producing a new single and music video, Breath, recorded in collaboration with VASCO, You Sae Yoon, and Polydive.
In 2015. Gang Jun Hyeong left the band and was replaced by Song Min.
In 2019, they recorded the single 목소리 for the OCN TV drama series Voice 3.[7] The same year, they collaborated with K-pop artist AleXa, recording a rock version of her debut single, Bomb.
In 2020, they announced "Project Diablo", stating their plan to release six singles, three mini-albums, and one full-length album. As of December 22, 2020, they have released two singles, Unheard Answer and Nothing (To Die For), the latter of which had a music video produced for it.
