winter season

It is the coldest season of the year in a polar climate as well as a temperate climate, and comes between autumn and spring. Winter results from the tilt of the Earth's axis in the hemisphere that is directed away from the sun. This season runs from December 22 to March 20 in the Northern Hemisphere. Several cultures also adopt different dates for the onset of winter, and some use a definition based on weather. When it is winter in the northern hemisphere, it is summer in the southern hemisphere, and vice versa. In many regions, winter is associated with snow and freezing temperatures. The winter solstice occurs when the sun is absent at the North Pole or the South Pole (by analogy with the pole the sun is below the horizon line), which means that that day has the shortest day and the longest night. Winter lasts 93 days in the northern hemisphere, and 89 days in the southern hemisphere
