On Friday 16 September an impressive meteorological phenomenon occurred in the Mediterranean off the Balearic Islands. Multiple and simultaneous trumpets were formed thanks to particular atmospheric conditions. Impressive images have been immortalized on social networks: the video has been viewed more than 300,000 times. It is rare to see so many water trumpets at the same time, highlights Giovanni D'Agata, president of the "Rights Desk." A water horn is a rotating column of air mixed with water. Some kind of vortex. A funnel forms under a convective cloud above the sea. Several conditions are necessary for the phenomenon to occur: the atmospheric conditions must be very unstable, the cold air passes over the warm waters. Less powerful than a tornado, a whirlwind can exceed 100 km / h. If it lands, its designation changes to landspout. Its diameter is less important than a tornado. Which doesn't stop her from being a killer at times. Cold tornadoes are more common than tornadic tornadoes.
