"Rescue Me"! - Battle For The Fix

"Pills, pills, where the Hell’s my next damn pill?
I’m ready for a fix. I'm a hankering for a thrill,"
She begged, "Just one or two"!

"Oh, I’ve taken them and hidden them away.
You've had enough of those damn pills this day".
I retorted, "You know it's true"!

"Who are you to tell me what I want, or need?
It’s my fix that must now be fed with new seed".
She screamed, "Go straight to Hell"!

"Do you think I don't know of your need for fixes,
How you connive, pull lies from your bag of tricks"?
I calmly answered, "It’s show and tell".

"Well, then dammit, if I can't have my next pill,
Then give me a bottle of whiskey to kill"!
She scorned me, "Silly friend of mine"!

"No, you can't have a swig of cheap whiskey,
'Cause that just adds to your woes-- major risky".
I muttered to myself, "She’ll never learn".

"Oh Honey, now you know I can handle my liquor,
And that the taste of it makes need go away quicker"!
She pleaded, "I am really begging"!

"We have been through this time and time again,
Your little rendezvous with addiction and its sin"!
I asked her, "Don't you want to win"!

"Then, I'll hit the streets in pursuit of a damn good fix.
I'll flip my skirt, offer the best of my womanly tricks"!
She taunted, "Men can't resist"!

"You've done that before, so that's not a new plan,
Go out, flirt, walk the streets to find what you can"!
I said “Yep, you’ll hunt for a vulnerable man"!

She slumped down in her chair with a blank stare
Started crying and said, "You just don't care"!
I said to myself, "Just another day with the same end.
Events in the life of an addict with a hard assed friend"!

Love and understanding can help heal an addict, but the healing must come from the addict! Far too many of our family and friends destroy the lives of others and die because of their addiction(s). Love, compassion, and prayers are needed for recovery!
The great availability of illicit drugs greatly contributes to the abuse of drugs and alcohol!
