How to Safely Check if your Pistol is Loaded

There are plenty of ways to check your chamber, but some work better than others. With proper care, even some I shake my head on are fine. Clearing a chamber is different, and I'm seeing some significant changes when optics are mounted. The number one rule is to maintain muzzle and trigger finger discipline. The whole point of checking is that you are unsure whether the firearm is loaded.
