DIY Built-In Cabinets and Floating Shelves | Updating our Living Room | 2022/18

This video is a re-cut and release of a two part video I did in 2020 and never really got the attention I thought it deserved. So I reedited it into a single video that is a little easier to digest. The funny part about this is all of the lumber prices I quote in the video are pre-pandemic, someday we will see $40 plywood again!

Part1: For the past five months, Mom It Yourself has been asking me for built-in cabinets in the family room. Her ultimate plan is to get rid of outdated 15-year-old furniture, and replace it with more efficient storage and open up an already small room. This is Part 1 of a 2-part series where I clear the room, prep the space, and then construct the carcasses of the cabinets and then install them in the room.

Part 2: So, I finished *most* of the built-in cabinets in May for our family room, but a few months have passed and its time to wrap this one up. Just an apology, that this video is long, I just could bear to see it split into THREE parts!! This is Part Two of a two-part series where I install the counter tops, build the drawers, doors, and drawer fronts for the cabinets. I also built a new mantel and installed some floating shelves.

Summary: This was an awesome project, I learned a bunch of new skills, and really changed the overall flow of our family room! The crowning achievement was in installation of a NINETY-gallon aquarium. I originally thought it was only a 55 gallon. But this cabinet is holding up over 720 POUNDS of water, sand, glass, and fish!!
