A peacock is beautiful when it dances well, but do you know why peacocks dance?

The main reason peacocks spread their feathers is to attract mates. Every peacock is different from the others in terms of color and spot pattern. A peacock spreads his feathers out in front of the peahens as part of the peafowl wooing ritual in an effort to entice one of them as his mate for the coming season.

Each year, peacocks must assemble a tiny harem of a few peahens; nevertheless, it is the peahens who select the peacocks, not the other way around. Although the specific selection criteria used by peahens are unknown, it is known that train size and color brightness are important factors.

Each peahen will lay 3–8 eggs after mating, which will then spend around a month in the egg stage before hatching. Peacocks don't help raise the peachicks, in contrast to many other birds.
