This rare deep-sea octopus is called Opistothecis californicus. The second word in the name is often replaced with "charming" for its large eyes and surprisingly cute appearance of the octopus.

These octopuses have a dark red, jelly-like body no larger than 20 cm. The tentacles are connected by a webbing like an umbrella. When swimming, the octopus moves the fins on its body and pushes water through itself, taking the shape of a parachute.
