Becoming a full time Youtuber is by far the biggest risk I’ve ever taken, and I have no plan B. Why?
Well, you know how the usual story goes, right? Little Johnny hates his 9 to 5 job, makes an average pay, can’t even take a bathroom break without his tyrant boss Bob looking over his shoulder, and wastes his days doing meaningless work. We heard the story of Johnny a thousand times. But it’s not my story.
I had a job that I liked, working with people that I loved, in a media company that did do meaningful work. So, what’s wrong with me?
I could already see how the next 20 years would play out: I’d keep on doing honest, decent work, get decent pay checks, buy a decent house, raise decent kids, retire at a decent age and most of all, do all those things feeling comfortable. So why did I quit?
I had those whispers in my ear telling me that I had more to give to the world, more to expect from myself. I’m 29, turning 30 in a few months and my life is nowhere near what I thought it’d be by that time.
When we’re kids we picture ourselves growing up to become all of those things we dream of and I’ve realized that I grew up to become none of those things. I’m a failed football player, a failed musician, but ironically I’ve always been a good employee, a good student. I’ve always excelled at helping others achieve their dreams, abiding by a system that pushed me into sabotaging myself in the process.
Soon, those whispers in my ears started to sound more like questions: Am I gonna grow old and bitter because I settled on realistic choices? Am I gonna die regretting not taking more risks? How will I one day be able to tell my kids to follow their dreams if I never did? I decided to do what I thought was unthinkable. I left my job to build the life that my 6 year-old self dreamed of, doing the things my 6 year-old self dreamed of. And it’s this channel, right here, right now.
I’m starting from 0 and I’m either gonna grow and get to the vision that I have for my life or crash and burn for you all to witness.
I’m inviting you to be part of that journey. In the next few months I’ll release documentary style content on subjects I’m passionate about. I want my content to entertain, educate but mostly challenge the perception we have of things. We live in an era where the media landscape is so polarizing that I realized the only true act of courage is learning to think for yourself. And that’s the kind of content I wanna make.
If that speaks to you, subscribe to my channel and I’ll see you on the next one ;)
