📍Odessa. Activists continue to desecrate memorial to Catherine the Great

"Catherine = Putin", it says.

Catherine the Great's real name was
Sophie von Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg, of Prussian heritage, but she acted in the interests of the Russian Empire. She obtained many of the current Ukraine's territories and annexed the Crimea from the Ottomans, as part of a battle for access to the Black Sea.

But before that, the Ottomans also captured Crimea from the Golden Horde (Mongolian empire.) So one could argue Putin = Cathrine II = Sultan Abdulhamid = Batu Khan? And how far back do we go? Caesar?

In terms of equivalents in historical context, the graffiti, in my view, fails to offend.
