York County, Rock Hill, South Carolina – On September 13, 2022, York County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call for service regarding a stolen vehicle in the Baxter area of Fort Mill.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Tyshawn Malik Benjamin, kept driving during a traffic stop, leading to a chase. The pursuit appeared to have ended for a moment at the Rock Hill Chicken King before the suspect took off again, eventually coming to stop in a CVS parking lot on Cherry Road. The driver then drove into two different deputies’ patrol cars.
When the driver rammed the patrol car the second time, with the deputy standing at the corner of the door in close proximity, York County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy fired three shots, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. He died later that night. No deputies were injured during the incident.
