Half of Instagram Thinks I’m Stupid

It shouldn’t surprise me but some people’s audacity really blows my mind. Before I get into what’s grinding my gears today the family and I do some morning goat chores here on the farm.

Recently we had an Instagram Reel go viral and everybody (or at least every third person, it feels like) thinks they know better than me. Now don’t get me wrong I’m all for constructive criticism but automatically assuming you know better than someone else is generally the wrong reaction.

We are changing up how we’re feeding hay this winter because the price of hay has increased so much that round bales, even with the additional hassle, are the better option. They’re a hassle for us to deal with because we don’t have the equipment that one really needs to handle them. I have a small tractor (with no bale spear), a small trailer, and a herd of small animals that don’t consume a lot of hay. Still at basically half the cost of square bales it’s what will get our herd through the coming winter.

But when I had to resort to something “unconventional” (I’ll admit it was foolhardy, but I wouldn’t say it was stupid or irresponsible) to move one of these big bales of hay everybody on the internet thought they knew better than me. And while I don’t take it personally I do get frustrated as to why someone would just assume someone else is too dumb to know better. The good thing is Megan and I have had several good laughs about the matter and the engagement has really bumped up our Instagram following, which is something that every content creator wants to have.

Don’t let some random person’s grumpiness get you down – they don’t know you or what you’re about, and just because they feel compelled to smart off on the internet doesn’t mean it should ruin your day.
