The DOJ’s War Against Trump Just Got Really Dark
We realize that in the last few days it’s been hard to keep track of developing news, as the media is understandably somewhat preoccupied with coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral proceedings. That said, it is imperative that make sure that ACLJ members are getting the information you need to remain informed, especially as we inch closer to the November midterms.
In just the last 24 hours there have been some major developments that you might have missed and it’s important for you to know about them both.
We just learned that over the last week some 40 or more individuals who have been associated with President Donald Trump were subpoenaed by a grand jury over different issues involving the 2020 presidential election.
ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow broke down what has taken place in just the last day, and what it means:
"Let’s put into perspective what happened here. First you had the Department of Justice execute upwards of at least 30 subpoenas. That means we are subpoenaing your records, we want your information. We want your testimony. We want to discuss with you the situation probably surrounding January 6th or possibly the certification of the election.
Then the next thing is, the step up from a subpoena is a search warrant. For instance, reports are that Boris Epstein who was President Trump’s lawyer and primarily I think coordinating Trump’s response to all of these investigations. The government showed up with a subpoena but they also showed up with a search warrant and said give us your phone. They take the phone and what they do is they basically mirror the phone. They download the phone. That did not happen just to Boris Epstein but reports are it happened to two other people who were high up. It seems to be focusing on this whole electors issue, but you’ve got to understand that we are within the 60 day window. The general election, the midterm elections, are 56 days out . . ."
The Biden DOJ is not just targeting the former President, who has been dealing with this sort of harassment and scrutiny since he first announced he was running in the 2016 election. Now they’re going after people, ordinary U.S. citizens who were just allies of President Trump. Honestly, it feels like little more than retaliatory harassment by the Biden Administration.
That’s something Jay echoed as well, saying:
"I think what’s happening is they are targeting the people around the former President that were there at the end or that are currently there now. And, you know, that’s where this is focused. But they’ve upped the ante, the Department of Justice, when you go from a voluntary come in and talk to a person versus here’s a subpoena. Give me your phone."
It’s hard to believe a sitting U.S. President would resort to fear and intimidation campaigns in an attempt to smear political rivals and intimidate their allies, but here we are. No one wants to deal with the legal hassle and expenses that have just been foisted upon these 40 or more folks just because of their political affiliations. It’s blatantly unconstitutional. Sadly, that’s not even surprising from the current Administration anymore.
Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes further in-depth legal and political analysis of the Trump-related subpoenas. We were also joined by ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs (and former U.S. Secretary of State) Mike Pompeo to discuss a variety of issues, including the Biden DOJ’s campaign against President Trump, V.P. Harris’s absurd claims about the border, relations with Iran, and more.
