E = mc2 is a popular equation that describes the relationship between mass and energy as put forth by Albert Einstein, the most prominent physicist since Sir Isaac Newton in my opinion.
It's application in nuclear physics led to the development of nuclear power for electricity and sadly nuclear weapons.
