Both "Billy the Kid," and "Jesse James," went down in history as outlaws because they were so wronged by Lincoln County's then corrupt officials. The Lincoln County Wars began. Billy the Kid and his band were dubbed, "The Regulators." Their only goal was to put down the corruption, which was running roughshod over everyone.
