At least four dead after 7.6-magnitude earthquake shakes Papua New Guinea

At least four people are dead after a 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Papua New Guinea in the southwestern Pacific on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and Reuters. NBC News is reporting.

While the extent of the damage remains unclear, photos showed debris strewn across highways and cracks opening up in roads. CNN reported.

The three people died in a landslide in the gold-mining town of Wau, said Morobe Provincial Disaster Director Charley Masange. Other people had been injured from falling structures or debris, and there was damage to some health centers, homes, rural roads and highways, Masange told The Associated Press.
