King Charles III was formally proclaimed as Britain's monarch and Commonwealth head on Saturday, in a ceremony that dates back hundreds of years.

Charles ascended to the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday. She had ruled the country for 70 years. Her funeral will be held on September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London, according to the royal family.
