The UK is marking the death of its longest-reigning monarch. Buckingham Palace announced 10 days of mourning after Queen Elizabeth died.

The queen who reigned for more than 70 years, died at the age of 96 with her son Prince Charles now succeeding her as king. The 73-year-old Charles succeeded Queen Elizabeth amid cost of living and energy crises.

Queen Elizabeth II ascended to throne on Feb. 6, 1952, after her father died of cancer.
