Remember never use charcoal briquette typically they have other chemicals added.

We use hardwood lump charcoal to grill with.
This ash can and will be added into the compost pile so that potassium along with other minerals will be added into the compost. Adding the ash to the compost allows the ash to break down and let the minerals be available for the plants to use when the compost is applied to the vegetables or the bed.
