King Charles III Makes First Address to the Nation

King Charles III recorded his first public address to the nation as sovereign on Friday, paying tribute to his late mother Queen Elizabeth II and dedicating the remainder of his life to the service of the British people and the wider commonwealth at large.

Following the queen's death at the age of 96 on Thursday, the new king made the journey from Scotland, where the monarch had been staying at Balmoral Castle, to London where he arrived with his wife Camilla, now the Queen Consort, at lunchtime U.K. time on Friday.

When he arrived at Buckingham Palace, accompanied by his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, crowds loudly cheered with many shouting "God save the king." The new monarch undertook his first walkabout among his people as he viewed the floral tributes left for the late queen at the palace gates.
