The first electric fire truck is deployed in the US by LAFD

The Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) has deployed what is believed to be the first electric fire truck in North America.

Rosenbauer, an Austrian-based fire engine manufacturer, claimed to have built “the world’s first fully electric drive fire truck,” the Rosenbauer RTX.

Back in 2019, we reported on them bringing a prototype on a tour of North America to show it to some fire departments.

The Menlo Park Fire District was the first interested in the truck and aimed to secure the first order, but the LAFD ended first on the list in February 2020. They placed an order for the electric fire engine, which starts at $900,000, but the LAFD configured a version at $1.2 million.

‘Turn off nonessential power now’; California issues emergency alert to avert blackouts

With electricity use spiking amid the searing heat, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Management Services issued a rare alert Tuesday evening, calling for Californians to immediately reduce their energy use to avoid blackouts.

“Emergency Alert: CAOES Conserve energy to protect public health and safety. Turn off nonessential power now,” the alert, which was sent to millions of mobile phones just before 6 p.m., read.

“If outages are initiated, consumers can expect to receive notifications from power providers on areas affected and time duration,” California’s Independent System Operator said in a news release.

Saskatchewan mass stabbing suspect underwent 'medical distress' and died after his arrest, police say

Myles Sanderson, the suspect in the mass stabbing in Canada, died Wednesday after going into "medical distress" after his arrest, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore.
Sanderson's death means both suspects in the attack that rocked the Canadian province of Saskatchewan are now dead. Sanderson's brother, Damien Sanderson was found dead a day after the attacks with injuries that were not believed to be self-inflicted, police said.
