Megadeth is one of "The Big Four" (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax). As many know, they were seemingly always in competition with Metallica.

This song is often interpreted to be about suicide, as the lyrics can be heard as a suicide note.

Introducing this song at a concert at Webster Hall in New York City on October 25, 1994, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine said: "In February of 1993, I decided I would try to kill myself with valium and I came real close to doing it... This is a song about that time period in my life when things were really f--ked up."

He later somewhat recanted and clarified the meaning: "It's not a suicide song. When people have a loved one that dies and they end on a bad note, they wish that they could say something to them, so this is a way for the deceased to say something to them before they go. It was my impression of what I would like to say to people if I had three seconds to do a soundbite before I died. I would say to the entire world, to all my friends, 'I love you all. Now I must go.' These are the last words I'll ever speak, and they'll set me free. I don't have to say I'm sorry, I don't have to say I'm going to miss you, I'll wait for you. I'll just say that I loved you all. Good, bad, indifferent, I loved you all."

However, on September 13, 2006, Kimveer Gill went on a shooting rampage at Dawson College in Montreal, eventually shooting himself. He was a Megadeth 's fan and mentioned this song on his blog, which prompted Dave Mustaine, who wrote the song, to make this statement the next day:
"Like everyone else, I am horrified and disgusted by the tragic events of yesterday. We will pray for everyone who has been hurt, and all the families that are suffering. 'A Tout Le Monde' is based on a dream I had, where my mother came back from heaven to say 'I love you.' It's about me talking to her again."

Mustaine added: "We don't write music that has any kind of suggestion about taking one's life. It is more like, 'Hey, we have a problem, let's be part of the solution."

MTV banned the video because they thought it promoted suicide. They did show it after some special comments were added, explaining how many kids commit suicide every year in the US. This message appeared at the end of the video: "Suicide is not an answer. Get help." The woman and child in the video are Mustaine's wife Pam and son, Justis.

Part of the chorus is in French:
A tout le monde
A tous les amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir

The translation:
To all the world
To all my friends
I love you
I have to leave

I believe this is a very powerful example of how influential artists can be and how careful we need to be with the power we wield as artists.

But Megadeth is far from the only band that has been blamed for suicides and other macabre fan enactments. The list of similar instances goes on and on, and no matter whether we admit it or not, our "Art" DOES have consequences...
