"Most legends come from humble beginnings, and the Corvette story is no different. At a time when the only true sports cars were built in Europe, Chevy saw an opportunity. The company went about building a dream team to design a car that would appeal to a younger market, give the brand some luster, and keep it ahead of Ford in sales. Harley's then-head of design Earl-GM took flight with an idea he had coveted for more than a year after seeing European sports cars at Watkins Glen: a two-seat, low-to-the-floor roadster. Driven by practicality, the 1953 Corvette uses mostly off-the-shelf components, such as the 160-hp "blue flame," 235-cubic-inch inline six-cylinder engine and two-speed Powerglide transmission. The only options available were a heater (which cost $91) and an AM radio ($145). All 300 that were sold in 1953 had both options. The 1953 Corvette didn't even have roll-up windows. All the cars were hand built, and all were Polo White with red interiors. The use of fiberglass was not only a weight-saving innovation, but was a necessity due to the Korean War and limited steel availability. The dramatic, bold exterior of the 1953 Corvette was exactly what the public wanted and forever changed the course of American automotive history."
The 1953 Chevrolet Corvette - abbreviated as the '53 Corvette - is a RWD roadster from Chevrolet that debuted in September's Pennzoil Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 4.
It returned in Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Horizon 2, and has been featured in all subsequent major series titles.
The 1953 Corvette is the first model year of the Chevrolet Corvette and represents its first generation model code-named C1. The C1 received frequent model year changes, such as the 1960 model, which is powered by a V8 engine and features quad-electric styling.
