Like yesterday's springbok collaring , this one is also part of movement data collection project by the NUST Biodiversity Centre of one of our Universities in Namibia. This was a particularly small collar on a Springbok in the Etosha Region. But it also includes Giraffe, Eland, Elephant and desert Lion. It is an ongoing project to research the spatial ecology, or the role of space in population dynamics and inter species relationships. Management of wildlife is particularly important in an environment where there are limitations such as fences and conflict with other land uses. Data collected at the Kunene site will also be used as part of the ORYCS project, which is a collaborative initiative between NUST, the University of Namibia, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and four German institutions. In the long term the project intends to understand the link between different wildlife management practices and the health and productivity of the ecosystem.
